چکیده

A light-front treatment for spherical nuclei is developed from a relativistic effective Lagrangian and employing the mean field approximation. Minimizing the nuclear minus momentum subject to the constraint that, in the rest frame, the expectation values of the plusand minus-momenta are the same leads to a formalism in which rotational invariance is recovered. Light cone variables have long been used to analyze high energy experiments involving

Light Front Quantization–A Technique for Relativistic and Realistic Nuclear Physics

Applications of relativistic light front dynamics to computing the nucleonic and mesonic components of nuclear wave functions are reviewed. In this approach the fields are quantized at equal values of τ = x0 + x3. Our method is to use a Lagrangian, and its associated energy-momentum tensor T +μ to define the total momentum operators Pμ with P+ as the plus-momentum and P− the τ -development oper...

Light Front Nuclear Theory and the HERMES Effect

I discuss applications of relativistic light front dynamics (the use of light cone variables) to computing the nucleonic and mesonic components of nuclear wave functions. Our method is to use a Lagrangian and its associated energy-momentum tensor T μ to define the total momentum operators Pμ, with P+ as the plus-momentum and P the light cone time development operator. The aim of this unusual ap...

Quantum Electrodynamics at strong Couplings

Front form dynamics is not a manifestly rotational invariant formalism. In particular, the requirement of an invariance under rotations around the transverse axes is difficult to fulfill since the corresponding operators are complicated and involve the interaction. All approximations in solving Quantum Field Theories using front form dynamics, as inevitable as they are, are destined to destroy ...

Nuclear deformation at finite temperature.

Deformation, a key concept in our understanding of heavy nuclei, is based on a mean-field description that breaks the rotational invariance of the nuclear many-body Hamiltonian. We present a method to analyze nuclear deformations at finite temperature in a framework that preserves rotational invariance. The auxiliary-field Monte Carlo method is used to generate a statistical ensemble and calcul...

UW - 01 - 17 Light Front Nuclear Theory

High energy scattering experiments involving nuclei are typically analyzed in terms of light front variables. The desire to provide realistic, relativistic wave functions expressed in terms of these variables led me to try to use light front dynamics to compute nuclear wave functions. Here calculations of infinite nuclear matter in the mean field approximation and also in a light front version ...
